About This Contest
We take great pride in celebrating writers with diverse and under-represented perspectives including ethnic, religious, racial, LGBTQIA+, disability, and 50 plus age groups. The competition is subject and theme agnostic, focusing on the diversity of writers and the experiences they bring to the craft of screenwriting. Our senior judging panel is dedicated to finding the best diverse writing talent and guiding their path toward lasting industry success.
Awards & Prizes
Live Story Conference: - Invitation to a live story conference with award-winning WGA writer-producers Robert L. McCullough and Suzanne Herrera-McCullough. - Private meeting focused on professional insights and guidance to bring material to a marketable level. - In-depth written analysis and a recording of the session are provided. Hollywood Studio-grade Professional Analysis: - 6-10 pages of professional analysis prepared by senior judges covering the ten primary screenplay elements with comments direct from judges.
Contest Rules
Submissions are welcome from writers who identify as part of under-represented minority communities including ethnic, religious, racial, LGBTQIA+, disability, or 50 plus age groups. Submissions must be in PDF format. Final Draft or Movie Magic Screenwriter files will not be read, scored, or judged. There is no limit to the number of scripts or media files you may submit. Material must be received by midnight of each deadline date and entry fees are non-refundable. Page limits: short film scripts 30 pages, television scripts 70 pages, feature screenplays 125 pages. Entries exceeding limits incur a 20% reading fee surcharge. All material must be original and wholly owned by the writer or writers submitting. Scripts must be submitted by the credited writer with consent of co-writers. All writers must be credited on the title page. Winning teams are responsible for dividing prizes. Once submitted, material is assigned to analysts and judges. Revisions or new drafts require a separate entry. Multiple entries and varying levels of analysis are allowed but each must be entered individually. By using the service, writers authorize trusted third-party services for hosting, managing, or transmitting submission files and grant permission for promotional use of their name and likeness. All copyright and ownership remain with the original authors. By submitting, writers agree to hold Butterfly Beach Media Inc. harmless and acknowledge that scores and comments are subjective and final.
